. >> you're watching cbs 5 eyewitness news. in high definition. >> stranded for hours a total melt down in one bay area city tonight because of the storms. >> good evening i'm ken bastida. >> i'm dana king. shut down for hours because of a power outage. liz. >> reporter: dana, between 40 and 50,000 commuters were effected by the massive melt down this evening.

look behind me. as you said all under ground transit stations shut down tonight. many are still trying to figure out how to get home. the chaos began with a grew some accident earlier this evening. >> i seen her. when the trollly went back i didn't see her. >> a woman in a wheelchair clipped the backside of a westbound trollly and was dragged underneath the car along market from delores to church street. >> the woman was taken to sf general for life-threatening injuries. the accident shut down service from the f trolly. 45 minutes later another melt down. this time the transformer that gives power to all the under ground lines blew up. shutting down service to the

entire under ground transit. apparently it was damaged with water damage from yesterday. >> the massive shut down forced thousands of passengers to find another way home. >> computers were down in the subway. we waited and waited and of course they never tell you how long it's going to be. >> it took judy over two hours to get home here in the castro from civic center. now sfmta provided shuttles to passengers that were stranded. the f line is up and running this evening. according to the sfmta they say they've isolated the problem with the under ground transit but they still need a little bit more time. it should be fixed within the hour. live in san francisco, elizabeth cook, cbs 5. >> residents are suddenly living in the middle of a construction zone after their street suddenly vanished. a section of mountain view drive in lafayette was no match

for the weekend storm siege. mark sayer shows us it maybe a mess. >> reporter: crews are working around the clock to try to stabilize this 80 sink hole along lafayette creek. east bay mud crews using heavy equipment work into the night to repair two water lines damaged in the wash out. it's all too real for resident joyce when she walked over and looked out from her side yard. her yard looks directly on to the open trench and the exposed pipes. >> i felt very sad. all our lives is just -- we just have this house. and everything you worry about it. >> city officials believe debris blocked a drainage underneath mountain view drive at about 8:30 and water over ran the road and simply washed

it away. water gas and sewer lines running underneath the pavement were all damaged. steven says repairs will not be easy. will not be cheap. and will not be fast. >> bottom shrine that there's going to be a hole in the ground here for a long time. and mountain view drive is going to be closed. >> and even with heavy equipment operating in the area some drivers are only now discovering at the last minute that the road is closed. dave is one of them. >> it's kind of crazy. this is an unbelievable storm that we've had. i don't know what to make of it. it's a great detour for me. >> city officials expect the stretch of road to be closed through the entire winter season. reporting live from lafayette, i'm mark sayer cbs 5. >> lafayette not the only spot. vine hill road off highway 17 in scotts valley will also be

closed indefinitely. a whole section of hillside disappeared in the storm taking the roadway right along with it. crews don't know how long it will take to fix it up. and chief meteorologist paul deanno says he knows one thing. more rain is on the way. >> flooding rainfall is done but there is more rain on the way. so watch high definition doppler light up this time tomorrowment a few slight showers out there right now. in sonoma county they've moved through. a few slight showers offshore. rainfall as you get closer to clearlake and redding and eureka. rain will arrive first in the north bay. but flooding rainfall is not likely. i'll explain why and how that has an impact on the entire seven day forecast coming up. more trouble for comedian cat williams. he was thrown out of a seattle hotel tonight after being arrested for a bar fight.

all that comes after this video surfaced. allegedly showing williams punching a target security guard. the 19-year-old guard says it started with williams giving him a hard time for selling his personal motorcycle helmet. and then it got physical. >> he approached me and the argument got escalated. and that's when he hate me. people are saying it's worth millions of dollars and he just cost me my job. >> the security guard said he was fired without explanation when the video hit you tube. police want the da's office to charge williams with battery. >> bay area shoppers are getting extra protection. christin ayers explains how oakland police will be out in force separating the naughty from the nice. >> reporter: it happens frequently where chelsea adams works. >> there's a bunch of little teenagers that will come and

hang out and hit all the stores. i've not seen an extra police presence. >> across the country you see an increase in crime during the holiday season. >> strings of thefts and muggings have spiked over the last several weeks the latest robbery happened minutes before we got to this location a woman was walking out of the trader joes in rock ridge when two men accosted her taking her groceries and purse. >> holidays are desperate times. and a lot of desperate people. >> desperate people and a diminished police force. oakland police booked fewer than people. >> this isn't always about arresting people. it's about intervention and prevention. >> cruisers, undercover officers and bike cops partnering with private security guards. >> i notice they have guys out

in yellow jackets too that make me feel even safer. >> all at a time when the city is pushing a new campaign urging oaklanders to shop local. >> i'm happy about that. i hope it helps the merchants. we have to kind of have each other's back. >> in oakland, christin ayers cbs 5. the plan promises to trend $2.2 trillion over 10 years. it includes $900 billion in entitlement cuts. it offers $800 billion in new tax revenues but only if the money comes from tax reform and not from raising rates on the wealthy. and that's where the stalemate is stuck. >> rates have to rise. and the republicans need to acknowledge that. that that's the only way to get from here to there. >> in a statement the white house said the plan fails the

balance test. if the two sides cannot reach a deal by years end. tax hikes and spending cuts will automatically kick in. >> well, it's so hard to find good yelp these days. and now san francisco restaurant shutters says it's proof. jakes on market closed after 10 months. and its owners say yelpers had a lot to do with it. it thanks patrons for support but it calls out critics that has poor reviews on the wait staff's t-shirts. one review trashed a dish that jake's doesn't even make. coming up a california magician on fire and it was not part of the act. the tv prank that went terribly wrong. that sounds like something out of a james bond film. how john macafy says he tricked

it wasn't part of the trick! it was all caught . >> a tv host sets a northern california magician on fire. but it was not part of the trick. it was all caught on camera and the video is disturbing. cbs reporter juan fernandez shows us what happened. >> reporter: these images have now been seen around the world. magician wayne being set on fire on a dominican tv show by the shows host. >> he suffered first and second degree burns to his face and hands saying this was not a stuck or trick but an unprovoked attack. >> what was seen, he was purposefully attacked for doing magic. >> john armstrong is a magician at the magic castle in hollywood and said he often performs there. >> the reaction by the magic community by his attack was

absolute sympathy from all of us. especially here in los angeles and all over the world. >> according to published reports frank poured a liquid on his head saying he wanted to bless the magicians on his show. that liquid has been around since the early 1800s and has been used in many latin american country to see purify and ward out evil spirits. >> in some parts of the world a magician is someone that is causing evil. >> in many cultures even performance magic can be seen as super natural. that may have been what provoked the attack. >> when i used to work in a magic shop there was a man that used to come in and scream satanism at us and throw holy water on us. this is something that exists everywhere in the worldment. >> there's an arrest warrant

for the tv host. he's in a dominican hospital but says he's doing better everyday. >> flu season is here. cbc says this is the earliest start in ten years. cases have been reported in all but two states. higher than normal reports of flu like this usually don't happen until well after christmas. >> we don't know why it's here so soon. but this could be a bad flu season. not just because it's here earlier than usual but the strain that's causing most of the cases is especially nasty. >> and the best way to protect yourself, yeah, you got to do it. you've heard about it before. get vaccinated. the case of fugitive millionaire john macafy keeps getting weirder a. body double. code words. how he claims to have tricked police again and escaped belize. >> john macafy has been on the run for three weeks.

the story is as strange as it's ever been. >> you are john macafy. >> i think so, yes. >> cnn tracked down the software guru and interviewed him somewhere outside belize. it's not clear how he got out of the country. he claimed the escape plan involved a body double who was detained in mexico and later released. getting to his new safe house was like a spy movie. complete with vehicle switches and secret code words. >> are you afraid? >> wouldn't you be. >> his hair is now dyed black. he appears to have lost weight and his skin is splotchy. he's been using bath salts but he claims he's sober and hasn't had a drink in years. his neighbor was found dead shot in the back of the head. he often complained about his dogs and the shooting happened after the dog was poisoned. >> did you kill greg. >> i barely new him.

why would i kill him. he was a neighbor that lived 200-yards down the beach. >> they recently pulled out after macafy apologized for manipulating this data. they posted on their blog. quite frankly we don't know what the blank is going on. >> are you a smart man. >> i don't think so. if i were smart why would by here. >> reporter: a cat in oakland has a few lives left after what happened. >> it weathered the weekend storms from the top of a utility pole. neighbors on brook dale avenue say the cat ran up there on thursday and it was still there today when a fire crew finally showed up. it turns out they didn't need to do much rescuing. after that ordeal the cat simply jumped and ran off. the weather forecast

san francisco 53. mountain view 49. napa 47. we have a weather maker on the way. unlike the three that got you soaked over the past five days. this one is not as wet and it's being deflected just a bit to the north by a building area of high pressure. this high will be a player in the weather for the next seven days. it's going to bump the storm track up to the north. when rain moves through tomorrow it will be a glancing blow. the heavy rainfalls will stay away. you'll get showers. you'll get wet tomorrow into wednesday but not soaked. flooding is not a concern. rain on wednesday primarily but flooding is not a problem. oakland 62 tomorrow. santa clara 63. san jose 63. pleasant hill 62 and vallejo also 62 degrees. looking at your extended forecast calling for a lot of rainfall to move in.
